The most documented DJ in the world, QBert has been featured in numerous local and national publications including Details, XXL, Spin, Jazziz, and the Bay Area Magazine (BAM), as well as international magazines and newspapers. In January 1998, QBert and the ISP crew graced the cover of the highly circulated URB magazine.
Heavily influenced by the styles of world-renowned jazz musician Miles Davis, famous electric guitarists Jimmy Hendrix and Les Paul, pianist Thelonius Monk, and original and innovative DJs throughout the world, QBert interprets their compositions to create sounds and styles that continue to generate a worldwide following. In the early 90's, QBert dominated the DJ scene with his talent and skills. After claiming the titles of the Disco Mixing Club (DMC) 1991 USA Champion and the 1992-1994 DMC World Champion, he was asked by the DMC founders to judge the 1995 DMC Championships instead of actually competing. In June 1998, QBert, along with another member of ISP, MixMaster Mike, received the DMC DJ Hall of Fame award for outstanding contributions to the competition and more importantly, the industry.
Established in 1996, Richard Quitevis and Ritche Desuasido created Thud Rumble, Ltd. and cemented a partnership to span the DJ skratch culture to new audiences and media. Primarily developed by DJ Qbert's innovations on the turntable, Thud Rumble saw a synergy by working with undiscovered talents in the independent music and film industry. Opportunities quickly unfolded allowing them to creatively express and explore the DJ Skratch culture in multiple media sectors.
In that first year they designed the 05, 06, and 07 series of skratch mixers and PDX-2000 turntables for Vestax. Their mixers till this day are the prototype standard design that ALL competing manufacturers are modeled after till this day. The revolutionary design of the PDX-2000 Turntable for Vestax has in the same way started the manual shift of a turntable to have such revolutionary controls. Their influence has been so dynamic and marking, that their impression can be seen in almost every facet of the skratch DJ market. From musical technological designs, corporate partnerships, and musical contributions, they've been boundless at it all.
Also in 1998 QBert appeared in two international movies: Hang the DJ and Modulations. Both films appeared in highly respected film festivals. The former was shown at the Cannes Film Festival held in Cannes, France, and the latter emerged at the Sundance Festival in Colorado. The documentary Hang the DJ, featured QBert and his unbelievable techniques. His impact on the world DJ culture and the industry has influenced artists not only in the hip-hop genre, but in all music categories. Modulations, a film documenting the history and culture of electronic music highlighted QBert and his skills on the turntable.
In November 1998, QBert released his solo debut album Wave Twisters. Their music influence turned into visual influence, in 1998 upon the release of DJ QBert's first album Wave Twisters came the project that would ignite their animation, and indy filmmaking prowess. Wave Twisters the Movie premiered at the famed Sundance Film Festival, won the SXSW award for best use of music in film, and was selected at over 30 other International film festivals around the World. On the other end Turntable TV their very own series of the lifestyle of DJs around the world gave life to the skratch culture, enabling aspiring and talented DJs from all over to share and communicate the latest innovations and artistry within them.
Within the same year, DJ Qbert's 1998 skratch album, Wave Twisters had a cinematic debut at the Sundance Film Festival. Fans were captivated by the brilliance of this album, which told a story using only skratch music. By working with talented graffiti artists and film producers, turning Wave Twister into an animated movie would soon be in motion. Soon after it completion, Wave Twister received a critical acclaim, and was later noted as Hip Hop's first successful animated film.
In 2000, Thud Rumble built Skratchcon2000 and the Main Event, encompassing the most important DJ showcases of all time with almost every major DJ crew at hand presenting their unique style and influence. Source magazine hailed their event as the "Most important DJ event of all time."
In 2004, Thud Rumble became the only company besides Apple Computers to design with Monster cable. Ortofon, one of the founding fathers of needle stylus and innovators of the concorde cartridge shape, asked Thud Rumble to help design and endorse the QFO. Becoming a modern breakthrough in DJ technology, the QFO combines the mixer and the turntable into one mobile unit, which allows turntablists to practice and/or perform anywhere. From Sony to Pioneer, Thud Rumble has become one of the few DJ companies to ever landmark a deal to endorse and design DJ equipment
It's 2005, and the release of several key innovations have turned the movement upside down once again. Starting off with the revolutionary QFO turntable, embodying the combination of mixer and turntable ALL IN ONE. Simple standards like the Butter Rug and Flying Carpets slipmats used for skratch dj's turntables. Innovative learning tools like the interactive Do It Yourself DVDs. Vital interconnect technology designs with Monster Cable, and countless other projects in the works.
In 2008, Qbert is now working on his sophomoric album. He has toured six continents in countless cities and countries.
