The beginnings of The Burning Void go back to the high school days of its two founding members, Ben and Martin. During exciting Maths classes, the boys thought it a better idea to write often rude and juvenile songs, the most famous of which, being 'Piggery'. They began to record the songs on an old cassette recorder, despite having no previous musical experience. Armed with an old acoustic guitar, lego buckets, pots, pans and a pair of coat-hangers for drumsticks, the boys recorded extremely dodgy versions of their old classics. Eventually, Martin acquired an amp and an electric guitar and Ben graduated to a drumkit. From there they continued to play and record their songs and attempted to master a number of covers. Their debut 'gig' was played at a friends party in their final year of school which was very average indeed. After the completion of high school Ben and Martin went in different directions to go to university, ending up in different cities, and tried to squeeze in the occasional jam during holidays. They started to write original songs that were more 'serious' and slowly started to create their own sound. It became apparent through time that Ben's vocals maybe wouldn't cut it with the new sound (more suited to the earlier material!). Thankfully, about four years after high school had finished Martin came across a young lass by the name of Danielle who later went on to become his girlfriend, then fiancee. To the delight of Martin, and later Ben, Danielle was a singer who enjoyed writing her own lyrics. She was immediatley instated as part of the band. For the next two or so years Martin and Danielle lived overseas and in Melbourne and Ben moved to Adelaide. Whilst overseas Martin and Danielle wrote a number of new songs together. When the three of them got back together there was a considerable eagerness to start playing again. In the process of this the band acquired a new member in the form of bassist Greg (an old friend of Martin's). Since then the band have jammed together for over a year and have written enough songs for an album. The band are currently recording demos of these songs at their rehearsal space, and have played their first major show, headlining their own annual music festival - BushMosh '07.
