ROSEVELT... I'M IN GRINDMODE! In a genre that some may consider dead, Westcoast MC, Rosevelt, stands out like a young Andre 3000 without having to be, well, over the top. Being different in today’s crowded hip hop industry can simply mean talking about something other than jewelry, cars, cocaine and clout; but Rosevelt doesn’t neglect any of the afore-mentioned, just choses to focus more on skill and musicianship, rather than selling the listener on materialism or watered down beef. Born in Dayton, Ohio and raised in Southern Cali’s infamous Inland Empire, where racial tensions, gangs violence, police harrassment, and a burgeoning hip hop scene live side-by-side in the more “country part” of Southern California. Rosevelt would seek refuge within the boundaries of hip hop. “I’ve seen cats come and go bruh, Cats that I grew up with is never comin’ home, and I feel I owe them to speak the truth. I love cars, jewelry and all of that homie, but if that’s all I rapped about, then you, as a listener may develop a misunderstanding about hip hop and black people in general!” Rosevelt and his producer, Epik, are leading a movement that has spread from the streets of Southern California to city limits all across the U.S. it is what they call Grindmode! Grindmode is Ambition, Hustle and Progression; whatever you do to survive, you gotta do it to the fullest. Whether you’re on the corner, in the classroom, or 9 to fivin’, you gotta go hard – “our grind is music”, says Epik. Between Rosevelt’s complex wordplay and bangin’ hooks, along with Epik’s neck-snappin’, bass heavy production, the two are reshaping commercial music, taking it back to a time where talent outshined your favorite rapper’s Jesus piece! After grinding out numerous CDs and rocking countless shows with such artists as Sly Boogie, Ray Cash, 40 Glocc, Mobb Deep, G. Malone, Roccet, Yung Berg, Purple Ribbon Allstarz, and a host of other artists, Rosevelt is ready to take his grind to the next level and rebuild hip hop. Circulatting the streets of America is the highly anticipated “Destroy & Rebuild” mixtape, which hit the streets and internet sept of 2007. With singles like the catchy “I’m Fresh”, and the Westcoast anthem, “Lookin 4 a Flip”, this mixtape (in which he vows to Destroy & Rebuild hip hop) is sure to generate plenty of radio spins, as well as grab the attention of industry heavyweights. After a few impressing appearances on the Wake up show with friend and collaborator Roscoe Umali, Rosevelt continues to build strong relationships and garner the respect that he rightfully deserves! “Me getting a deal isn’t the hard part, getting the right situation is far more important than just having a deal. I have a team that thrives off of the grind, and we won’t settle for just anything, because I’m not the next gimmick, but the next icon…I’m in grindmode!”
