Reverb & The Verse is a revolutionary music phenomenon formed in the shadows of the mountains of Denver in late 1999. It is not sufficient to stamp the music as hip-hop and it is not accurate to describe it as electro. It is a smash up of many genres that will leave you singing hooks for days. "Broke Funk" is an apt description of this song-based/electro/hip-hop fusion of sound.
Providence "The Verse" brings astute lyrical prowess to this duo's foundation as the MC, with a style that gives nods to the true masters of the game. The themes he spits are vast and sometimes furious, but always full of insight and wisdom. Glancing at the lyric sheet gives a hint at the depths that goes from his mind straight to the mic. His first foray into the music game came in the early 90's as the lead rapper for The Exodusters. Throughout the years he has made guest appearances with The Dojo, as well as releasing a highly acclaimed solo project, The Domino Theory, in 2004.
Shane, the Anti-Producer, brings a wide variety of musical abilities to the show. Shane has been the pilot behind several electronic bands throughout the years including boyfriendgirlfriend, E_LAB, and the electronic-punk outfit Bomb Congress. In 2001, he was nominated for a Westword Music Award. The electronic music producer is also the engineer, drummer, and sometimes even vocalist. As a believer in musical creativity, there are no samples used in his musical creations as he consistently obliterates genre categories.
Reverb & The Verse have 3 albums to their credit: Retake The Art (2001), Ravenous (2003) and the freshly released Versatile (2008).
This is something to see live...the on-stage show includes drums and multiple guest singers including Analog Suspect from the Dojo, Amanda Ray, and the emerging supersongstress Miss So & So.
Listen and absorb. There is no braggadocio here. Who doesn't love riches, cars, and fast women? But you won't find lines about that here. It strives to be intelligent while not being self-absorbed. This is art, whatever your musical bent. |
