BIO
Ten years ago, Jason Marks stepped away from a budding music career as a back up singer/guitarist with the North Carolina based band, "Far Too Jones" (Disney/Mammoth records), and joined the U.S. Navy as a diver. Jason was released from military service due to a diving related injury and found his way back to Wilmington, NC. After trying to get settled into a new career in marketing, Jason still found he had a passion for writing and performing music. Jason was born in Napa, California and grew up between southern California with his father and Virginia Beach, where his mother currently resides. He came to Wilmington, North Carolina in 1989 for a movie audition and liked the town so much he returned 18 months later to attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. His music career began out of a necessity for work, which at the time was hard to find, so he took out a small loan and bought a PA and guitar and started performing locally during his college years. June 2005 marked the release of "Whiskey Would Be Risky", Jason's first solo release since 1994. The album has already been compared to the likes of Chris Isaac, Lyle Lovett and Dwight Yoakam. The collection marks a departure from the modern rock style of Far Too Jones and vividly displays Jason's love and appreciation for various styles of music. Jason has had radio air-play in the Wilmington and Southern California areas, which he accompanies with live acoustic performances throughout the Carolinas, Virginia and California. May 2008 marked the release of "Slow Down", the long awaited follow up to "Whiskey Would Be Risky". The cd is compiled of songs written by Jason, along with some of the hottest up and coming songwriters in Nashville such as John Griffin, Arlis Albritton, J.Juliano and Randy Montana. The cd was produced and engineered by Jason Merritt and features guitarist Will MacFarlane.
