Essential MC was born with a unique purpose to raise consciousness through the use of the spoken word, in the form of rhythm and rhyme. It was in 1997, while attending the Institute of Audio Research in New York City, that Essential learned of the power of sound vibration. Having already been an emcee as well as a student of Spirituality, it was then that the messages in his music began to evolve into a form that had the potential to inspire and motivate crowds to their higher potential.
A cum laude graduate from Long Island University’s school of broadcasting, Essential had always envisioned his message being broadcasted around the world. Though not originally from New York, while there during his college years he began to perform at many of the local open mic sessions and showcases. He began to host a monthly event entitled “Full Frequency” that showcased both signed and unsigned artists in the conscious hip hop / spoken word community. It was during this 3 year run that he shared stages with artists such as: Mos Def, Common, Talib Kweli, Jill Scott, Big Pun, dead prez, Jessica Care Moore, Saul Williams and many more.
Essential, is a “conscious lyricist” that uses the power of rhyme and spoken word to bring forth the message of upliftment and infinite possibility. His delivery has the inspiration of a motivational speaker with an ongoing theme of Universal Love and Oneness. The sound of his music is an international one, as it fuses downtempo hip hop, eastern instrumentation, hypnotic drum rhythms with a lounge vibe. His performance style varies as he can move and inspire a crowd while performing with a live band or from prerecorded music on his ipod. Essential has also authored an inspirational book entitled “Essential Affirmations” which comes with an accompanying cd.
Giving back to the community has always been a theme in his adult life and he has worked with youth from pre-teens to young adults through various local and national organizations, including the Agape International Spiritual Center in Los Angeles. Essential is also a sound engineer as well as a long time student of quantum physics and metaphysics, whose concepts are throughout his lyrics, lectures and workshops. He is currently being featured on KRS-One’s “Stop the Violence” album entitled Self-Construction which is due to be release in summer of 2008. Be on the lookout for Essential MC as a lecturer and panelist in the fall of 2008 at various colleges and universities around the country.
