:: DIRK LP :: Derrick “Dirk” McGinnis is what the music industry has been longing for! The Alabama native with the stage name “Dirk LP” began at the age of 9 with a beat machine, a 4-track mixer and a serious passion for hip-hop music. With a long list of influences from every corner of the map, Dirk LP has become a well-rounded artist, producer and performer making his presence known all over the Southeast and beyond. He launched his independent label, Dirk Down Records, Inc. in December 2000, and has been knocking out hits ever since. Some of his accomplishments include, but are not limited to: a debut release in June, 2002: Dirk: Valley of da Lost Hope (Dirk Down Records) from a belly-up Texas-based distribution company, several editorials in major hip-hop periodicals (The Source Magazine: "Independents' Day" and “Off the Radar"; XXL Magazine: "Show & Prove"), opening shows for major label artists from the South (no name-dropping necessary!) and blazing features on mixtapes from DJs all across North America. Dirk is currently working on his next project, while continuing to produce, write, record and perform, paying special attention to perfecting his artistry. The most recent addition to his works: Dirk LP: It’s Da Kid – Vol. 1 was released via CD Baby and its affiliates in late November, 2007. Armed with a relentless grind and incomparable talent, Dirk LP is determined to take the industry by force. His highly anticipated follow-up release: Dirk LP - Round 2: the coming is a record packed with bangers certain to turn the game around!
