BIO

Peter William Nelson aka Copywrite was born on June 12th, to Peter James and Vikki Nelson. Spending his early years in Fort Lauderdale, Florida Copywrite moved with his mother and sister to the Eastside of Columbus, Ohio during his childhood. Although he was already listening to Hip Hop music from an early age, it was his move to Ohio that would provide the spark for his music career. Once settled in Columbus Copywrite befriended a local kid named Jakki and together they began developing their creative styles spending hours creating skits and making music. In 1990, inspired by the likes of Scarface, Will Smith, Ice Cube and Slick Rick, Copywrite gave himself a stage name and began penning his raps and finally forming the initial Mhz Crew with Jakki Da Motormouth in 1995. Together they would continue writing and honing their skills for the next few years awaiting their first big break. That break came in 1998 when Copywrite and Jakki sent in some demos to the infamous N.Y. college based radio station show called “The Stretch and Bobbito Show”. Their album “World Premiere” became heavily a heavily spun record resulting in invitations to perform live on the show. Exposure to Stretch and Bobbito provided the opportunity to work with the legendary Rawkus Records in N.Y., and, after talking back and forth in 2000 Copywrite released his first single “Holier Than Thou”. The single received attention of hip hop “underground” followers creating a demand for a full length album. Later that year, copywrite and his brainchild “The Mhz Crew” released an E.P. entitled “Table Scraps”. In doing so, they justified their hype and created a one-of-a-kind buzz in the underground circuit. Copywrite went on to write his debut solo album “High Exhaulted”, which was released in 2002 on High Times and Eastern Conference Records. The album also launched his first tour -- a two week trek thru Europe. In 2004 Copywrite entered the “Roc Da Mic Battle” hosted by Jay Z and 50 Cent and after smashing the competition with his clever lyrics and 6’4’’ stature he went on to become the last MC standing. Exposure led to more tours and inspired Copywrite to begin working on his very own official mix tape. In 2005 “The Cruise Control Mixtape” was released on Nature Sounds Records with world-wide distribution through Caroline. Currently Copywrite is talking to various major and independent record labels and is hoping to release a couple projects within the next year.
