The definition of common ground is two seperate entities coming together for a similar cause. Often times, the best results come from the most unlikely of combinations, and the acoustic hip hop band Common Ground is the perfect example of that. Hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina, Common Ground is a breath of fresh air for today's music industry. Comprised of two members, Jesse Page, a passionate and talented acoustic guitar player and singer, and J'Dup, an innovative hip hop artist, Common Ground brings to the table an exciting musical collaboration that has yet to be seen in today's industry. The passion and commitment that is shared between the two artists makes for timeless music and endless creativity. The music speaks for itself, but the story behind Common Ground makes it that much more amazing. Before Jesse Page ever picked up a guitar, and before James Bawden became J'Dup, the two were best friends in sixth grade. At the time they were both typical pre teen boys, playing sports, chasing girls, and having fun. Neither of them could ever imagine how their lives would change in the coming years. Jesse got transfered to a different school in eighth grade, so the two friends eventually lost touch. You would think that going to different high schools, and having different friends and experiences would make it nearly impossible for the two to remain friends or ever reconnect. Not quite. After years of no contact, their paths crossed once again in late 2007, when they found themselves working at the same job. By this time, Jesse had been playing guitar for 3 years and writing his own songs, and James had began a career in hip hop as J'Dup around the same time. There was something strange about the situation though, because the two friends had not only started writing music at the same time, but they also had similar life experiences. Divorce had come into both of their homes, and they still could share alot even after years of being apart. The more they talked the more they realized how similar they still were, and they decided to hang out again, for old times sake. It wasnt ten minutes before the two were playing music together, Jesse playing one of his songs, and J'Dup freestyling as he played. After that one session, they knew they had hit something special. After a month of diligent work in a home studio, the two musicians produced their first CD as a band, called "N.O.R.M.L.(no one really makes love)". The first 8 songs that they wrote together became that album, and Common Ground was born. Armed with poignant lyrics, catchy hooks, and a never ending effort to make every song different, Common Ground is a dream for any label lucky enough to give them a chance. Their style orignates from the acoustic guitar, and thats where they are most unique. When was the last time you heard an acoustic guitar playing under a rapper...with no beat?! The rhythm holds their songs together, but they also arent afraid to experiment. Since their first album, Common Ground has built up their sound with the use of pianos, horn sections, and driving drums. Their live show is an extentsion of their passion for the music they create, leaving every audience they perform for in complete awe. A totally self sufficient band, all you need to do is lock them in a studio for a month, and timeless music will spill out from the speakers. Well on their way to creating music that will touch thousands of people, Common Ground is a diamond in the sand waiting to be found.
