| It all started August 2006 as a jam session between Joshua Lemaire (former bassist) and Evan Kirkwood. Connor Read was asked if he wanted to jam with the two, nothing serious at first, just a fun project. A lot of ideas began circling between the three about what kind of sound to produce, and the idea of keyboards was suggested. Evan had been friends with Josh Boucher for years, and he was an obvious choice for a keyboardist.
The line-up seeming to be cemented, but something was missing, vocals. After looking for a few months and not being able to find any sort of voice that we felt suited us, Boucher decided to take the mic.
The line-up was then finished, and we began to experiment with our sound. A batch of songs were written quickly, ranging from soft rock to progressive metal. (At the time, we didn't really know what we wanted to sound like) Two of those songs, A Fearless Way of Thinking and Eightfold Path became the inspiration for the bands direction. After ditching softer music almost entirely, we began to write more and more progressive metal.
After a few months, we had been working on the same few songs and things weren't really going how we expected. After Ian Montigny joined as the new bassist around Christmas 06, Chasing Infinity formed.
After most of the band finished high school, it was pretty obvious that we needed a demo. We met a guitar teacher named Mike who had some recording gear. His production wasn't of high quality, but a demo did need to be made.
Gigging over summer and songwriting took the main focus, and once fall came we realized that the low-quality demo wasn't enough anymore. We began to look around for other opportunities to record. We met with Tim Borges and after seeing his equipment and hearing his quality decided to record a full length with him. During the process, guitarist Connor Read stepped up for some death metal growls and bassist Ian Montigny focused on harmony singing. It was finished in March 08, and the entire CD will be uploaded to myspace by April at the latest.
We set out to be a band of good music, not just metal or progressive rock. Dozens of elements mix to make a very unique sound that we hope the whole world will be able to experience. |
