BIO
Andrew DeBarge was born September 28, 1989 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Before he could focus on anything else, music had captured him and revealed to him a gift of freedom. He began playing drums at age four. He didn’t have a drum set but he discovered that pots and pans, walls, or any surface handled the job just fine. He eventually progressed onto playing the piano and guitar during teen years, allowing his hands the dignity of being used for various musical creations. Andrew being a natural at all things he purposed to accomplish, also found himself to be a good dancer. Andrew realized at a young age that music brought about peace. It had an astonishing power of healing that could be used to change lives if held in the correct hands. Andrew comes from a heritage of music. His mother, April, studied piano beginning at the age of seven and is also a singer and songwriter. His father, Thomas (Tommy) DeBarge was bass player for the pop groups Switch and DeBarge in the early eighties and is also a skilled singer and songwriter. Andrew’s uncles and aunt made up the legendary group DeBarge who laid a foundation of good, melodic, soulful music during that era. Andrew’s talent hints that he has the same capability. Former generations for both mother and father were also musicians. Prior to the release of his “Your Place” debut album, Andrew had an opportunity to perform on stage as lead guitarist with his father and uncles El, James, and Mark of the group “DeBarge” for a New Year’s Eve show in Portland, OR. He also was privileged to perform with his Uncle Chico at BB King’s Lounge in Universal City, CA. Andrew’s independent label debut album “Your Place” introduces him to the world as a young, multi-talented musician, singer, songwriter and dancer who is able to deliver hope and joy to discouraged listeners. He has experienced the same pain and hurt suffered by the world and hopes to demonstrate to everyone, through his rare gifts, that things will work out okay if circumstances are held in proper perspective. Andrew has a vision. He has discovered that he writes with depth and meaning, which enables him to connect with his listeners in a realm of peace. His melodies come forth from the heart and draw attention inward to a place where the focus is on one’s own feelings. Andrew allows his gift of music to elevate him above the anxieties of each day. Through his music, he is able to release the strong emotions kept private from the world. It comforts him just to sit and play his guitar.
