| Having music in her DNA is an understatement when it comes to this recording artist. Getting introduced to the piano at the age of 2, and getting serious with lessons by 6, the progression that took place each year after came as no surprise to the people who know her.Born in Toronto, Ontario, this innovative musician was adopted at an early age and was raised up north in a mainly Caucasion community. She took it in stride and basically has taken all of her experiences, put them to music, and is now telling the world her story. She began her music training with classical piano lessons through the Royal Conservatory Of Music from 1989-2002. Between 1991-1993, Specyal T became heavily influenced by early 90's hip hop, rnb, soul rnb, and alternative music with a strong pulling toward Nirvana, Green Day, Kris Kross, Tag Team, MC Hammer, Boyz II men,TLC, S.W.V., and Salt n Peppa. She then started perfecting her craft of writing and poetry. By 1996, it was evident music composition was something she should get into so she was encouraged to do so by her then piano instructor. By the time she reached high school she was unstoppable. Being involved in countless music festivals, showcases and community concerts for both piano performance and composition, stage and concert bands where the trombone was her instrument of choice, and also doing some accompanying for the high school vocal ensemble; as well as for solo vocalists. In 2001 her Jazz band took 1st place at the Montreal Music Festival, than came home and took 1st place for the first time in 5 years at their local music festival. They recorded an album of their top songs shortly thereafter. She entered into university in the fall of 2002 with a strong compostional/theory and performance background, where she excelled in all areas. Choosing to focus more on the performance stream, she took up a few new instruments including (but not limited to): trumpet, steel pan, and cello; to add to the list. In the spring of 2005 she teamed up with Toronto's Samba Squad and opened up for Sarah Mclachlan. In March of 2005, Specyal T found another hidden talent this time in the form of her vocals. After doing a class project for a production class, her professor mentioned that she should seriously consider getting into rapping. With this in mind she decided to focus in on her production skills and has created a number of beats and tracks. Through that her music company "SPECYAL T PRODUCTIONS" who's signature are one of a kind custom-made themed songs was established. Specyal T is a very dedicated, passionate, and skilled musician. In her career she has performed in 170+ shows as a solo instrumentalist (piano & trombone) ensemble (Trombone, Caxia & Steel Pan) in a band "Hidden Agenda" (Keyboards & Vocals) and as Specyal T (rapping & singing). Now in her 19 years of musical experience is not only an instrumentalist, composer, producer, songwriter and emcee, she also shares her love of music with others by teaching piano aswell. "I have a lot of stories to tell some funny and some not so much, but I think I can really relate to just about anybody who's willing to listen." In 2008 she's gained the attention of industry execs with the release of her new EP "Ontario In Your Stereo". Her official video for her single "Ice Cream Cone" is droppin in the summer. Specyal T's name is no mistake. Her sound, her vibe and her musical mind are exceptionally unique. Her music is the future! Take a listen and hear it for yourself! Come join the movement! |
