| Boston bred Hip hop artist, MC and producer, SHIMTHEDREAM a.k.a Shockin’R, formerly Rashim Bradley is definitely the definition of a REAL RAW MC. The epitome of “substance and essence” when it comes to HIPHOP. In a Hip-hop nutshell, Shockin’R is one who takes life’s experiences and struggles as the proper motivation and inspiration he channels into his music and lyrics. Since childhood days as a pre- teenager doing shows and different venues in Boston, from your basement underground house parties to appearances at the famous and classic Skycap club, Chevous roller rink to the popular Strand theatre with his group NBC (Newborn Click) also known as the 2 Cold Crush which was him and his cousin, a group put together and orchestrated by an older cousin (Lancelot) who till this day is ShimtheDream’s hip hop inspiration and reason for his skill set. Besides coming from a family of talented Entrepreneurs and Artists, the NBC would be the launch pad that would send this up and coming young, inspired and aspired artist to be on his way.
From the Early 90’s, Shimthedream would be co-founder of Boston’s Super group CLOSEDLOOP. At the time when sampling and raw-wave truncates would fully immerse HIP HOP into a new wave of production and standards, CLOSEDLOOP would be a crew a head of their time. In 1995-96 dropping the EP CLOSEDLOOP/ A Million Man Strong would be the inspiring track and theme to what the Black community vibed to at the tail end of the Million Man March which was written and produced by ShimtheDream and Nigel Free (Co-Founder and Producer of Closed Loop). This was the time in his HIP HOP life when SHIMTHEDREAM would begin to hone out his music production skills. Working with the Ensoniq’s and AKAI workstation would begin to give him more of an understanding of music engineering altogether without the formal schooling. Learning from hands-on experience, live and direct right in Nigel Free’s basement daily mostly.
Shimthedream’s passion and skill set has been crafted over a span of 20+ years in this HIP HOP. A lot of people say he is RAKIM 2020 because of his somewhat monotone raw emphasis and flow. Sharp witted, knowledgeable with a ridiculous flow described in his own words as Shock and Awe theory. Always expressing and spitting from the heart and soul. From conscious to spirit as he always reiterates “ the Spirit wrote these lyrics, who me I’m just a vessel” which is actual lyrics from a track called the Vessel, off his up and coming album “SHOCK and AWE” soon be released summertime ’08 as an indie release. Also quoted by his following and critics as one of HIP Hops’ finest diamond in the ruff. As a solo-one man band and also part of the new HIP HOP super group, The Bredren (Shimthedream a.k.a Shockin’R, Slimpickens, Buttaraspy, Izwon, Ax Butane, Subzero and Versatyleskillz), a group of rising HIP HOP mega-stars with national and international connections is passionately working overtime on future releases as of right now. Knowing the internet and the digital domain is the future, Shimthedream has begun to take full advantage of the opportunites this domain provides. The Kid is on his way.
