| “Nate Skeeze”, born Nathaniel Skinner 22 years ago in the south side of Toronto's Lakeshore area, is the real deal, the genuine article. He's a man of the streets, thoroughly familiar with its codes and its propensity for violence, but still, Skeeze, is an incredibly intelligent and conscious man, that holds himself with a majestic air as if above the turmoil that surrounds his everyday life.
Skeeze found a way to escape the negative influences of his neighborhood by immersing himself in the writing and lyrics of Hip-hop music. He fell in love with it at the age of 10 when he began to write poetry, and by the age of 13 he was already winning rap battles on the streets of Toronto against other underground artists 5 years his senior. In the years that followed it could easily be seen that Skeeze's knack for addictive and syrupy hooks would be the key to his future success.
Like most kids in the lower income developments, Skeeze had to deal with the ups and downs of growing up in the ghetto. Nevertheless he has never tried to glorify the negativities of the hood. Although some might consider his music gangster rap, the majority of his records focus on the trials and tribulations of that lifestyle, Skeeze has seen and learned a lot through his own living environment, and the experiences of his close associate, and family members.
On the flipside, besides being a rapper and ghost writer, Nathan Skinner was and still is one of Canada's most promising athletes. Skinner was 2005's number 1 rated High school basketball player in the country and signed to NCAA's Div 1, University of Iowa, but due to a change in the evaluation of Canadian academics by the NCAA Clearing house, he decided to go to a top ranked Junior college in Miami, Florida.
With lyric and vocal arrangements compared to a mixture of JayZ and Nas along with the combination of Skeeze's good looks and undeniable ability to cater to his perspective listeners, Nate Skeeze is definitely the next big thing to come out of Canada. As well being the fact that he lived in the U.S., in the north part (Brooklyn, New York) and south (Miami, Florida), this has all influenced Skeeze's style and distinctive difference to other Canadian artists. |
