my favorite genre of music is metal. it was developed in the late 60's & early 70's and had roots in blues & pyschedelic rock. it hit mainstream popularity in the US in the 80's as "Glam/Hair" metal. which was overall a sucky time for metal. then the disco era developed and metal seemed to have died. but luckily, the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) revived metal. such bands as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, & King Diamond influenced american metalheads to create more aggressive styles of music. thus, Thrash metal was born. Pantera, Anthrax, Metallica, etc, etc. But then came the 90's and the birth of grunge which eventually turned into alternative. Nirvana is cited as one of the first grunge bands. then KoRn came along and created what is now known as Nu Metal, which incorporates hiphop beats and rhythms into metal music. lets not forget our black, doom, & symphonic metal bands that soon jumped into the metal scene overseas. overall, metal has had an intereting history. and its the combination of music and lyrics that draws me into metal. because early metal music talked about trippin on drugs or having a black partying your ass off. the lyrics soon morphed into speaking for the voices that are never heard. bands began to connect to fans on a different level, assuring them that theyre never alone. which impresses me no matter how many times you slice it.
